The past two days, we have been back at Swampscott High School presenting to students. Huge thank you to Ms. Woodfin for being such a great support to her students and to The NAN Project!

First Spanish Presentations to High Schoolers

Over the past two days, our team presented to 5 groups of students at Phoenix Charter Academy Chelsea and the Youth Elemento Access Center. At Phoenix, our team split up to present simultaneously to students in English and Spanish. We dove into conversations about mental health stigma in the Latinx community, and talked about resources for support – including the new youth access center. We are excited to continue providing this programming, making it more accessible as we extend our language capacity.

The NAN Project Joins Haverhill Community Resource Fair

Today, our Bilingual Outreach Coordinator joined the Haverhill Community Resource Fair, it was great to check out other organizations sharing information and talk to folks in the area!

 

Mental Health Feature on Boston 25 News

Check out The NAN Project Team featured on Fox 25 Boston‘s story on youth mental health! Thank you Kerry Kavanaugh for highlighting this important subject and giving us a chance to promote the work we do The NAN Project to reduce the stigma around mental health and suicide prevention. A big shout out to the students at Gloucester High School, WAKE Up Wakefield/ Wakefield High School, and La Colaborativa for their amazing job during the panel discussion! 

Presentations for Revere and Winchester Students

Over the past two days, our team presented to 173 students at Revere High School and McCall Middle School in Winchester. The middle school students especially, had so many questions! It was great to listen to their thoughts and clarify some helpful information on mental health!

Dr. Bettina Love Speaks at Bryt Symposium

Today, we attended the Bryt Symposium! Bryt is a program that helps students that have mental health challenges re-enter into their classes full time. There, our Office Coordinator, Sarojini, and intern, Lauren, attended a presentation by Dr. Bettina L. Love called “We Gon’ Be Alright, But That Ain’t Alright” Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Educational Freedom. We appreciate the insight she shared and her support of teachers, parents and caregivers who are fighting injustices in their schools and communities.

Presentations to 242 Students at Lawrence High School

Over the past two days we presented to 242 students at Lawrence High School! It was great to get into some deep conversations about opening up to trusted adults at school and how to support a classmate that is struggling with their mental health.

First Presentations to North Andover High School

This week we presented to students at North Andover High School for the first time and trained Gloucester community members at YOUnity Drop In Center in QPR. We also held our 3rd session of support circles for 8th graders at Galvin Middle School in Wakefield, focusing on different types of stress and managing reactions through a few interactive games.

Peer Mentor Training at Massasoit Community College

This week our team trained 6 new Peer Mentors at Massasoit Community College! We’re so excited for them to join our team and share their comeback stories at schools across Massachusetts.

Presentations to 298 Students in Chelmsford and Burlington

This week we presented to 119 students at Chelmsford High School and 179 students at Burlington High School. Our Peers spoke about what finding mental health support looks like outside of high school to graduating seniors at Burlington and sparked great conversations around support for adults!
