What are Protective Factors?

This Suicide Prevention Month, we’re talking about protective factors, the things in our lives that help keep us safe and strong when challenges feel overwhelming.
Protective factors can look like:
having supportive friends you can talk to
‍ trusting adults and mentors
feeling connected at school or in your community
healthy coping skills and access to care
These connections and supports don’t make struggles disappear, but they build resilience and reduce the risk of suicide,
