Coaching Day with Hannah Mell

At today’s coaching day, we were joined by Hannah Mell– a social worker and close friend of The NAN Project–who led us in some activities around understanding when we need help, how to communicate these needs, and how to apply these skills in the workplace.

Presentations to 277 in Framingham and Wakefield

This week our peers presented to students at Joseph Keefe Technical High School in Framingham, it was great to answer questions about seeking support and using positive coping strategies. Our team also trained librarians at the Wakefield’s Lucius Beebe Memorial Library in QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer: Suicide Prevention training and shared comeback stories to students at Galvin Middle School in Wakefield to assist in their SOS: Signs of Suicide training.

Check out this Boston 25 News segment showcasing students from La Colaborativa in Chelsea, Wake Up Youth Action Team in Wakefield, and GHS Mental Health Ambassadors in Gloucester talking about mental health in their communities. Everett Wave’s Mental Health Night

We were so grateful to be invited to speak at Everett Wave Club’s Mental Health Night. We spoke to a great group of teens about how to take care of your mental health and speak to your family about it as well. A huge thanks to Liliana and the amazing team at the Eliot Family Resource Center in Everett!

Presentations to 473 Students at Lowell High School

This week, we presented to 473 students at Lowell High School! It was amazing to reach to so many students in Lowell and to respond to a wide variety of questions about mental health and therapy.

QPR for Staff at The Beyond House and Department of Health

Over the past two days we provided the suicide prevention training: QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer, to staff at The Beyond House Access Center in New Bedford and virtually to staff at the Department of Health. We appreciate their time and commitment to learning best practices for helping someone who may be at risk of suicide in their communities.

Presentations to Students at Everett High School and MLK Charter School in Springfield

Today, our Peer Mentors presented to 13 high school students at Everett High School and 50 5th graders at MLK Charter School in Springfield. It was great to talk about mental health for students of different ages, and at MLK Charter, we got the chance to pet a bearded dragon!

Professional Development in Hingham, Belmont, and Beverly

The past few days we trained staff at Hingham High School in QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer: Suicide Prevention Training, presented Mental Health 101 to staff at Belmont Public Schools, and presented a mental health support training for the Beverly Fire Department. We also started up another round of the Let’s Talk About It! teen group at the Eliot Family Resource Center in Everett. We look forward to the next session of this ongoing support skills group!

Amy Kerr’s “I Am More” Reception at the Northshore Mall

Tonight, we had the pleasure of joining Amy Kerr’s “I Am More” reception at the Northshore Mall. It was amazing to see the portrait of our Bilingual Outreach Coordinator, Karla, displayed so prominently in the gallery along with the group of outstanding subjects. We appreciate Amy Kerr for her dedication to sharing the stories of resilience and creating portraits of those with mental health challenges and disabilities. 

Peers Present in Melrose, Concord, and Newburyport

This week we presented to over 125 students at Melrose High School, Nashoba Brooks School in Concord, and Newburyport High School. It was a great experience to share insight about different kinds of therapy, how to distinguish typical feelings from a mental health challenge, and available resources in schools!
